Hāpai Ō is a comprehensive care programme designed and delivered by Ngāti Whātua for tāngata whai i te ora who want to make positive life changes and need a supportive environment in which this can occur safely for them.
Tikanga led:
The tikanga of Ngāti Whātua will provide this guidance over the entire Hāpai Ō service. Meanwhile, each home will have their own tikanga developed by the tāngata whai i te ora and staff as a living set of protocols designed to enhance and protect the mana and safety of those in the home.
Outcomes focused:
Hāpai Ō is about ensuring that tangata whai i te ora are resilient and ready to join their community and make a real difference as rangatira for their whānau and those around them.
Person/whānau-centred:
Each tāngata whai i te ora who enters the home will enter with a clear wellbeing plan with goals and outcomes they have set themselves. Their time with us will be spent working with our Kaimanaaki moving towards achieving these goals.
Mana enhancing and empowering:
Hāpai Ō will be delivered in a way that is uplifting and empowering. That is, methods of delivery will be engaging, and services will be designed and delivered in a way that effectively pass on knowledge and embed change. As the service develops, the views and experiences of tāngata whai i te ora will be important for improving the quality of the care we, or our partners, provide.
Co-designed:
Where possible, the views and experiences of tāngata whai i te ora will inform the design of programmes and services. Their voice will be valued, respected, and protected throughout Hāpai Ō.
Inclusive:
While we are working with tāngata whai i te ora, we will also be working with their whānau and iwi, and other care providers, to support their safe transition back into their awhi and aroha.
